Keiser University Orlando Campus Histotechnology program students recently gained hands-on lab experience by learning how to stain tissues while performing the Mayers-Mucicarmine staining procedure. The test was used to investigate mucin, which is a secretion produced by a variety of epithelial cells and connective tissue cells.  The group also learned that excess mucin is secreted by epithelial cells in certain inflammations and in certain intestinal carcinomas.
