Keiser University Sarasota campus students recently visited Lido Key Beach to pick-up trash and debris as part of the Great American Clean Up. Led by Student Government Association (SGA) and Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) students with help from Associate Director of Student Services Jordan Benedict, the group enjoyed the beautiful morning while transforming the look of the beach.

“Our SGA and PTK members have a strong desire to be present within the community and actively seek opportunities to give back,” said Benedict of the participation which was initiated by PTK President Lee Wlaznik. “The groups have also become involved with the Keep Sarasota Beautiful Roadway Initiative, local food and blood drives, and more,” she said.

The Keep America Beautiful Great American Cleanup is the nation’s largest community improvement program, which takes place annually in an estimated 15,000 communities nationwide. It started as a litter cleanup initiative designed to aesthetically improve the environment by creating cleaner parks, streetscapes, and public spaces through litter removal and elimination. Community cleanups remain at the very heart of the campaign, and in 2019 alone, over 40 million pounds of litter and recyclables were collected by volunteers throughout the country.
